A woman, in her thirties, delivered a baby in a mini-truck outside the gynaecology ward of Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital on Wednesday.
Passersby on the hospital premises stood bewildered as they heard Seema crying of labour pain and her two female relatives conducting the delivery. Seema’s husband Pawan Kumar rushed to the hospital’s gynaecology ward to seek medical help, but when a nurse came out, the baby had already been delivered.
While the nurse took the baby inside for medical care, Seema kept lying in the mini-truck for over 30 minutes, as the medical staff totally disregarded her condition, her husband alleged.
Pawan Kumar, resident of Bahadurke Road, said, “It is quite evident that no one cares for the poor. When my wife started crying of labour pain, I called 108 Ambulance, but they kept telling me that all ambulances were busy. Therefore, after waiting for nearly an hour, I arranged for my friend’s mini-truck and brought my wife to the hospital.”
“But our misery did not end there, as despite Seema’s cries, no one came out to help her deliver the baby. Later, she kept waiting to be admitted in the hospital too,” Kumar rued.
