Bank robbery bid foiled as miscreants fail to break open gate

Bid of looting Central Co-operative Bank at Panj Garayiyan village of Machhiwara was foiled, as the miscreants failed to enter the bank. Machhiwara police station SHO Darshan Singh said, “Some miscreants tried to break open the door of the bank on Monday night, failing which they tried to make a hole in the wall to enter the bank.”

Bid of looting Central Co-operative Bank at Panj Garayiyan village of Machhiwara was foiled, as the miscreants failed to enter the bank. Machhiwara police station SHO Darshan Singh said, “Some miscreants tried to break open the door of the bank on Monday night, failing which they tried to make a hole in the wall to enter the bank.”

“After making several failed attempts to enter the bank, the miscreants broke open the doors of Agricultural Co-operative Sabha, but again failed to break open its safe,” he said.

The bank employees came to know about the incident on Tuesday morning, when they reached the bank. The bank officials immediately sounded the police, and the investigation was initiated.

Singh said, “At present around Rs 50 lakh cash was kept in the bank safe, while Rs 4,000 were kept in the safe of Agricultural Co-operative Sabha.”

The police official said, “After intruding the adjoining building of Agricultural Co-operative Sabha, the miscreants tried to break open the safe, but failed to make it.”

“In frustration they stole parts of bank generator and invertors and battery from Agricultural Co-operative Sabha building. They also damaged the computer and took three kg tea leaves from the building,” the police found during the investigation.

Bank chairman Charanjit Singh Lakhowal said, “The bank has no security system at night. The bank has no security guard and no Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have been installed. But, the bank will install CCTVs very soon.”

SHO said, “A case has been registered against unidentified miscreants at the Machhiwara police station.”
