Members of BSNL Employees' Union and National Federation of Telecom BSNL Employees, Ludhiana, staged a protest in front of the GMT office here on Tuesday. The nation-wide call for demonstration was given by the united forum of unions, demanding immediate settlement of long pending issues concerning the staff.
Addressing the gathering, Balbir Singh, circle secretary of BSNLEU, Punjab, said, "The management of BSNL is deliberately denying us our justified demands. The worst effected cadre is regular workers of BSNL. Almost all the regular workers have reached a stage of stagnation and their increments have stopped."
"The wages of the staff recruited after January 1, 2007, have been reduced after revision. The management is curtailing facilities being extended to the staff one by one. Leave travel concession has been freezed, facility of fix medical allowance has been withdrawn. We are demanding immediate restoration of LTC and medical facility," he added.
Balwinder Singh, district secretary of BSNLEU, said that they would intensify the struggle if their demands were not accepted. The union would organise dharnas for three consecutive days starting August 21, followed by strike on September 4, he said.
Circle secretary SP Singh and district secretary, National Federation of Telecom BSNL Employees, Pritam Chand, said that while the employees of BSNL were working hard for the revival of BSNL, the management was discouraging the employees by curtailing benefits.
