Complete works in time or face action: Navjot Sidhu to officials in SAS Nagar
Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday warned officials that they must complete works and address people’s grievances in a time-bound manner or face action.
Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday warned officials that they must complete works and address people’s grievances in a time-bound manner or face action.
He said this during a surprise visit to Nayagaon in SAS Nagar.
“I will give you some chances to complete a work or get the residents’ complaints addressed. I will take action if the work is not done even after that,” he said.
Sidhu asked the officials to submit specific reports on development works such as construction of roads to ensure quality work in the area. He directed the executive officer (EO) to prepare a plan of all development works which are to be carried out in Nayagaon in the coming year so that all works could be started in time. The officials were also told to ensure transparency by displaying every detail of ongoing development works on a board.

He also urged the MC and nagar panchayats to generate resources to become self-dependent. He interacted with the residents who highlighted issues concerning the area. They said the building plans for their houses were not getting cleared and demanded that the building plan fee should be reduced.
Sidhu said he will work to reduce the fee. The residents highlighted that the roads were in a bad shape and they continue to be dilapidated even after re-carpeting. He directed the officials of nagar panchayat to solve the problems of locals in a time-bound manner.
He launched a special campaign ‘Peoples Government at their doorsteps’. He also visited the proposed site for the sewage treatment plant (STP) and did not find the site suitable as it is situated near a residential area. He directed the officials to send a fresh proposal for a new site.
He said the Congress is committed to its pre-poll promise of providing quality services and corruption-free system to people. ‘Corruption and harassment of people in the hands of public servants will not be tolerated at any cost, ”he said.
Among those present were former Kharar MLA Jagmohan Singh Kang, deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra and additional secretary local government Hargunjeet Kaur.
