Cops take 6 months to lodge NRI couple’s complaint

Their frequent appeals to the station house officer (SHO) of the NRI police station here did not yield any result until the couple approached the inspector general of police (IG), NRI cell, on September 19 and a case was registered on their complaint on October 16.

The complainant, Jitender Jaswal, said he along with his wife Mandeep Jaswal has been living in Canada for a decade and had a daughter Malika born in February 2007.

Jaswal said in February 2012 his sister Aradhana informed him about a plot at New Surajganj locality and asked him to purchase it.
He said after Aradhana and her husband Vijay Shukla convinced him over telephone he came to India to purchased 20 marla land at Model House.

Jaswal further said a deal was settled at Rs 26 lakh which was given to Shukla for purchasing the plot.
He alleged that Aaradhna and Shukla sold out six marla land without his consent and the remaining 14 marla land was registered in the name of his wife Mandeep.

He said he had deposited Rs 1.29 core in his joint account with Aaradhna for taking care of his daughter Malika who has been living with his sister since September 2007.
He further alleged that he would send Rs 1 lakh to his sister to take care of Malika every year but Malika was treated badly by them.

He said their daughter was not sent to school for last six months and she was also beaten up.
He further claimed that Malika was not given medical care as a result of which she was suffering from dental, eye and skin ailments.

Jaswal had given two complaints against his sister and her husband at the local NRI police station on April 24 pertaining to1 land fraud and perpetrating cruelty against Malika.
“When we met IG NRI Gurpreet Kaur Deo in Chandigarh with complaint against the SHO on September 19, she referred thw matter to the police commissioner and asked him to get the case inquired by ADCP-I,” said Jaswal.

After the inquiry, a case was registered against Aradhana and Vijay Shukla under various sections of IPC and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, at the police station-4.
NRI police station SHO Dalbir Singh said cases pertaining to money and land fraud take time for proper investigation.
