It was a moment of joy for students of IVY World School when ace cricketer Harbhajan Singh, fondly known as 'Bhajji', reached the school to inaugurate 'Harbhajan Singh Cricket Academy' with the motive to groom young cricketing talent and enable them to pursue a professional career in cricket.

Along with the cricket academy, the off-spinner also inaugurated the new squash court of the school. He played with young players of the school and taught them the basics of the game.

Harbhajan stressed on the need to bring up the standards of sports in the country by providing a place for talent to be encouraged. "The game has given a lot to me. Now it is my turn to give it back. I know that Jalandhar has so much talent and the academy will explore it and nurture it. Students today are so lucky that they get such facilities. If I had got such platforms to learn, I would have reached a different high," said Bhajji.

"I would love to see youngsters coming up in the field of cricket from my birth place. Youngsters need to know that without hard work, no one can reach the desired heights. Sachin Tendulkar, Milkha Singh, Kapil Dev are perfect examples. They didn't have anything and today we all know what they have achieved and what have they done for the country," added the Turbanator.

Talking about the drug menace, Bhajji said, "Punjab youth should only get addicted to sports. They must get themselves indulged in studies and sports. Parents must prompt their children to go for sports," he stressed.

The Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee received a lavish welcome and was felicitated with bamboo saplings. A cultural programme was also organised on the occasion.
