With parliamentary elections round the corner, the Patiala municipal corporation has launched a toll-free number for the local residents to redress their complaints pertaining to civic amenities in the MC jurisdiction.
The move will help the civic authorities to have better liaison with the people before the Lok Sabha elections.
The MC authorities launched a toll free number, 1800-180-2808, for the residents to register their complaints.
The civic body has been drawing flak for the past two years for poor civic amenities, including non-functioning street lights, blockade of sewerage system, poor garbage collection system and leakage in the water supply pipes.
With facility of toll-free number, the authorities will assure complainants of redressing their complaints within stipulated time.
Patiala mayor Amarinder Bajaj said besides providing quick services, the complaints on the toll-free number would help to make officials concerned accountable in case of non-redressal of the complaints.
"After receiving complaints, these would be immediately forwarded to officials concerned, for whom it will be mandatory to update the authorities after redressing them", Bajaj said.
He said the complainants would be given details of official concerned, who has been assigned the task. "Residents can also register complaints if officials and employees of any department demand money", he said.
