“We were constantly harassed by the Congress workers, who are close to former Congress MLA Ajit Inder Singh Mofar and his son Bikram Mofar. On Wednesday night, while I and my son were returning from the plant after washing solar plates, we were gheraoed and attacked by three vehicle-borne armed men, who fired shots at us which killed my son and severely injured me. I somehow managed to reach the hospital and my son died on the way,” said Prem Singh.

Prem Singh’s partner Balwinder Binda had held a press conference on Wednesday alleging threats from close aides of Bikram Mofar, whose father is a two-time MLA from Sardulgarh constituency. Audio clips of Congress workers, threatening Balwinder Binda went viral on social media last week. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Narendra Singh said that around 20 people have been booked for murder and there is no political influence in the case.

“As many as 20 people, including some unidentified men, have been booked for the assault on Prem Singh. Two persons from the opposite camp have also been admitted in the hospital alleging injuries during cross-firing. We have yet to record their statements,” said Narender Singh. The cops have arrested the key accused Gursewak Singh Barn and Jagga Singh while the other accused are on the run.
