Ex-serviceman kills father over petty dispute in Batala
He had an altercation with his father and elder brother, when the latter were going towards their field on a tractor, which partially entered into his field
In a shocking incident, an ex-serviceman shot dead his father and left his brother injured over a petty dispute at Rahimabad village in Batala subdivision of Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Friday night.
Police said accused Lakhbir Singh, 36, a former havaldar, had an altercation with his father Jagir Singh, 60, and elder brother Harjeet Singh, 37, when the latter were going towards their field on a tractor. The tractor partially entered into Lakhbir’s field and he got enraged over it.
Lakhbir, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, brought out his licensed gun and fired at his father and brother. Jagir died on the spot while Harjeet was rushed to the Batala civil hospital, from where he was referred to a hospital in Amritsar.
On the statement of Harjeet’s son Baljinder Singh, the police registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC and the Arms Act against Lakhbir, who is now on the run.
Villagers said Lakhbir had a property dispute with his father.
