Five killed, three hurt in road accident near Rupnagar
Five members of a family, including four women were killed and three others injured in a road accident on Rupnagar-Chandigarh road near village Rangilpur about three kilometres from Rupnagar late Saturday night.

According to information, the accident took place around 10.30 pm when a tempo no. PB 12M-9310 was hit from behind by a tipper no. PB12T-6382, coming from Rupnagar side. As a result of this, people sitting in the tempo fell on the road and tipper ran over them, killing four people on the spot, while four others sustained injuries.
The injured were rushed to civil hospital in the city from where they were referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh. One of the injured died on the way to PGIMER.
The deceased have been identified as Premjit Kaur(40), Mandeep(13), Nasib Kaur (62), Rajinder (35), Harjinder Singh (45), all residents of village Majri Thekedaran.
The victims belonged to village Majri Thekedaran and had gone to attend a marriage in village Lakhmipur. They were on the way back when the accident happened.
Following the accident, the relatives of the victims and villagers blocked the traffic, which continued till wee hours on Sunday. The blockade was lifted only after registration of case under section 304-A of Indian Penal code by the police in this regard.
The deceased were cremated at village Majri Thekedaran.
