Students burn degrees seek job assurance
Meanwhile, a group of BTech (agricultural engineering) students caught the authorities unaware when they staged protest during the convocation ceremony and burnt copies of their degrees, demanding job assurance from the state government.
The protesting students suddenly got up during the convocation and wanted to meet the governor and the chief minister. However, on being denied permission by security officials, the irked students walked out of the university auditorium and set on fire the copies of their degrees.
They demanded that the government give job assurance to them as many BTech (agricultural engineering) pass outs have failed to secure employment. The students wanted to return their degrees to the governor and the chief minister, seeking their cancellation in the face of impending unemployment.
Earlier, Haryana governor and university chancellor Kaptan Singh Solanki awarded degrees and gold medals to MSc and PhD pass-outs of the university.
A total of 460 pass-outs of under-graduate courses (284), masters courses (104) and PhD (72) during 2013 and 2014 were awarded degrees on the occasion. Besides, 32 pass-outs were awarded university gold medals for their academic and research excellence.
