SAD candidate Joginderpal Jain today won the Moga bypoll by more than 18, 000 votes. He comfortably defeated Congress candidate Vijay Kumar Sathi, and once again stamped his authority over the constituency.
Jain, who quit Congress to join ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in December last year, was ahead of his rival candidate since the first round of counting.
His victory was evident after the counting of votes for nine rounds got over as Jain was leading by more than 17, 000 votes.
There were ten candidates in the fray, however, the main contest was between Jain and Sathi.
The Moga assembly byelection had witnessed a good turnout of 71.18% in spite of the inclement weather on Saturday.
Polling by and large went peaceful across the 188 polling booths, even as there were reports of heated arguments between supporters of the Akali-BJP alliance and the Congress in Godhe Wala Basti.
