Kuldeep Kaur had lodged a complaint at the Rama Mandi police station about a month ago. She had said that her husband had married Barjinder without divorcing her, and both had been beating her.

SHO, Rama Mandi, Baljinder Singh had conducted an inquiry into the complaint following which an FIR was registered against the duo at women wing police station on August 26.

Baljinder said the accused man had married Barjinder without divorcing his first wife. Both his marriages are registered and he has a daughter from the second wife.

The complainant, mother of two children, was living separately for some years due to some dispute with the husband.

The police have booked both Amritpal and Barjinder.

District president of BJP mahila morcha, Urmil Vaid, said the arrested woman had joined the BJP during the recent assembly polls.

"She is only a member of the organisation and is yet to be inducted in the district body," she said.

Vaid said she would send a report to the state office bearers of the organisation about her arrest and they would take appropriate action.
