The way in which the LPG gas cylinder is being supplied in city is under scanner, as the prominent gas agencies in city are 'illegally' supplying them to few, barring other bona fide customers of getting timely service.
Instead of supplying cylinders to consumers, who have valid connections, they are sold in black to others.
One can see trucks and trolleys full of cylinders in several parts of the city such as the Jawaddi road, Pakhowal road, Ishmeet Chowk and several other places, where cylinders are being sold in black.
This is illegal and the agencies can even be penalised for it, but such activities are common here and are mushrooming without any check.
As per the rules and regulations, gas agencies are not allowed to make trucks and trolleys stand outside godowns with cylinders. If one gets caught, then an FIR is registered immediately on that gas company/agency and on people, who are found on the spot.
Two vehicles (PB-10-AN 3895 and PB-10-AN-9616) were found at Jawaddi Road on Monday afternoon, while another (PAN-6382) was found around the Ishmeet Chowk near the Model Town police station.
The worker on the trolley, on being asked why were they standing with cylinders in the open, he said to help consumers since they find it difficult to go to the agencies and get cylinders, hence they come at a specific place and then delivers the same.
It is surprising that instead of several high profile politicians and councillors living in such areas, no complaint was registered.
When assistant food and supply officer Surinder Singh was contacted, he said, "If we see any trolley or truck standing in any area, we write to the gas agency concerned and inform them that it is illegal. Then necessary action is taken against them."
District food and supply officer, Rajnish Kumari on the other hand said that they would carry out a raid and the defaulters would be punished if they were caught following such practice.
