Ludhiana: Classes for army recruitment hardly find takers
Student turnout continued to remain low on the third consecutive day of classes being held for upcoming written test for army recruitment on July 26.
Student turnout continued to remain low on the third consecutive day of classes being held for upcoming written test for army recruitment on July 26.
The classes began on Thursday in six schools, which have been allocated to District Sainik Welfare Office as per the orders by district administration to impart skills to the students appearing for the written test.
Jagdev Singh Sekhon, principal, Multipurpose School, said, “Only two students had turned up for the classes on the first day. We expected a better response on the second day but no student came to attend the classes next day.”
The classes for the students, who cleared their physical fitness test and are going appear for the written exam, are being held even on weekends, but the student turnout has remained less than expected. Heavy rainfall on Saturday has also been a contributing factor for low student count.
Kulwant Singh, principal, Senior Secondary School, Samrala , Kulwant Singh said, “Eight students came for the classes on Thursday and 10 on Friday. We expected more students on Saturday but no one came, perhaps due to heavy rainfall. Commanding officer, Col Mehta also came to visit our school on Friday.”
However, a better response was seen last year as students in large numbers had appeared for such classes.
The principal of Government High School, Khanna, said, “Last year, we had received a very good response with about 35 students coming to attend the classes. However, this year, only three students have come until now but we had to send them back early on Saturday because of excessive rains.”
“I have also requested experts from Bhagat Puran Singh Social Welfare Trust to teach students from Monday onwards. I hope more students will turn up for the classes,”he added.
