Ludhiana youth shot dead, cousin injured in Canada
The victim, Gagandeep Singh Dhaliwal, along with his cousin and some friends was standing outside his house when the assailants opened fire at them.
A 20-year-old youth whose family hails from Agwar Lopon village of Jagraon in Ludhiana district was killed while his cousin got injured in a shooting at Abbotsford city in Canada on Sunday night.
The victim, Gagandeep Singh Dhaliwal, along with his cousin and some friends was standing outside his house when the assailants opened fire at them. A bullet hit him in his chest. Hearing the gunshots, his mother and grandmother rushed outside but he had died by then.
Gagandeep’s cousin was rushed to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. Police said the homicide unit is investigating the incident.
The family had shifted to Canada from Jagraon many years back. Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal, father of the deceased, has been the head sewadar of Khalsa Diwan Society of Abbotsford in Canada and is among known Sikh community leaders in Canada.
Agwar Lopon village sarpanch Shivraj Singh said the family was in touch with locals even as they had shifted long back.
They came to know about the incident on Monday morning, he said. A pall of gloom descended on the village after the news of murder reached here.
