In a shocking incident, a resident of Duniya Sandhu village under Qadian police station allegedly killed his six-month-old daughter and dumped her body in a near-by river.

In his complaint to police, Mangat Singh of Dhalla village stated that he had married his daughter Kawaljeet Kaur with the accused, Dharminder Singh, a few years back and the couple was blessed with a daughter.

After the birth of daughter, Dharminder started taunting Kawaljeet, which became a cause of dispute between them.
The accused assaulted his wife many a times and left her in her parents’ house, but after intervention of village elderly the matter was resolved, claimed Mangat Singh.

About six months back, the couple was again blessed with a daughter, which led to quarrel between them, stated Mangat Singh, adding on May 14, Dharminder assaulted his wife and sent her to her parent’s house, but kept both the daughters with him.

“On Monday evening, I received information that Dharminder had killed his younger daughter. I, along with other relatives, rushed to Dharminder’s house to find out truth, and found his younger daughter missing,” alleged Mangat Singh.

On being questioned about the whereabouts of the girl, the accused was unable to give a satisfactory reply and subsequently, said Mangat Singh, he lodged a complaint with police.

Following the complaint, the Qadian police registered a case under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused and arrested him, who during interrogation had purportedly confessed the crime, said police.

Station house officer (SHO) of the Qadain police station Lakhwinder Singh said police had deputed half a dozen divers to trace the girl’s body.
