In its fifth academic session, Punjabi University campus, Maur, has proved a boon for girls of the rural area.
Around 81% students in various courses being run on the campus are girls. Campus student Deepika Garg stood third in the MBA exam in 2011 where Navdeep Kaur from the campus stood first in the BCA in the university in 2012.
The campus organised a function to commence its fifth session on Tuesday. On this occasion, Manjit Singh, coordinator, neighbourhood campuses, Punjabi University, was the chief guest and ML Garg, SE, irrigation, was the special guest.
Principal DK Madaan welcomed the guests saying the campus was established in 2009 by Jaspal Singh, vice-chancellor, Punjabi University, to impart professional education for the development of the rural area.
"We have been successful in our mission. All these girls being educated on the campus earlier had no opportunity of higher studies. But now we have girls who would never have been allowed to go to learn at far-off places. Now they have a campus in their neighbourhood," said Madaan.
Manjit Singh welcomed the new students to the institution.
