The move is being seen as an attempt to improve the cash-strapped MC's finances and make sure that revenue earning departments improve their functioning, as these had been unable to meet their targets over the past couple of years.

The MTP department has been given a target to collect Rs 12 crore this fiscal (2013-14). The officials were required to collect Rs 5 lakh a day, but could collect only Rs 3 lakh. So, now it has been asked to collect Rs 6 lakh a day.

Sources added that the house tax department officials presented a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the municipal commissioner on Tuesday.

Municipal Commissioner DPS Kharbanda said that such target-setting aimed to set right the financial health of the MC and tide over the problem of shortage of funds.

"The MTP department and the other revenue earning departments were found to be short of their targets," he said.

"The performance of the department would be reviewed each fortnight," he added.
