The Muktsar police have decided to cancel the FIR after finding the complaint by two minor sisters from Kotli Sangar village, in which they had alleged that the conductor of a private bus service had tried to molest them, as false.

The police have concluded the inquiry into the complaint in which the sisters had alleged that the conductor of the New Deep bus service had tried to molest them on May 13.

The police have found the complaint to be false after the completion of inquiry conducted by DSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal.
"On the basis of the video footage taken from the two places, call detail records and videographed accounts of witnesses, we have found the complaint to be false and will send the FIR to the court for the approval of its cancellation," SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal told the media on Wednesday.

The SSP said, "Gagan Sangrami, a resident of Jhabelwali and an active leader of the Punjab Students Union (PSU) from Government College, Muktsar, conspired with Jasvir Singh to make a false complaint as a dispute between the New Deep bus service and PSU activists had taken place in Faridkot and some of the PSU boys were booked. Gagan got the complaint on the letter pad of the PSU and also signed it. The motive of the complaint was to mobilise public anger against the New Deep bus service due to the Faridkot incident."

When asked if the police were taking action against the complainants, the SSP said first they were seeking the permission of the court to cancel the FIR.

The police claimed that in the CCTV footage, only one girl, along with her father, was seen alighting from the bus at Kotkapura bypass while the other girl and Manpreet Singh, a resident of Jhabel Wali village, were not there.

In the complaint, the two minor sisters and Manpreet were said to be travelling on the same bus.

On the other hand, Jasvir Singh, father of the two minor sisters, alleged that the police had tampered with the video and it was false. "We stand by our complaint. Now the police are saying that one of my daughters and I had alighted from the bus at the bypass, while earlier, the bus operator had claimed that no such incident had taken place. I was not there at all. I am a daily wager and why should I defame myself by filing a false complaint?" said Jasvir Singh, father of the two minors.

"We will protest against the cancellation of the FIR," said Jasvir.

Gagan Sangrami, zonal secretary of the PSU, claimed, "The police are directly under the home minister and the owner of the bus is a close aide of his. So we can say that the police are working under political pressure and are eager to give a clean chit to the accused. The complaint has nothing to do with the Faridkot bus incident."

"The police are shielding the accused and we want a judicial inquiry into the incident," claimed Karamjit Singh, another student union leader from Kotkapura.

The police had booked the unidentified conductor of the bus under Sections 354 and 506 (outraging the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation) on May 15 on the complaint of Jasvir Singh.

The registration of the case was followed by a statewide strike by private bus staff, demanding its cancellation.

Bus owner and Akali leader Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon had claimed that the complaint was false and fabricated only to tarnish his image.
