The deceased has been identified as Rani of Hansawala village near Goindwal Sahib. She was married to Khan Singh four months ago.
Hardev Singh, father of the deceased, alleged that his son-in-law Khan Singh and his mother Surinder kaur and his father Sardool Singh allegedly harassed Rani to bring dowry from her parents' home.
He added that on Sunday night, his son-in-law Khan Singh demanded a car in dowry and forced her to bring the car from her parental house but his daughter denied to fulfill their demands. When Rani told her husband that she wants to go to her parents' home, he allegedly picked up a quarrel with her. Dejected over the verbal spat, Rani committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance, alleged the father.
ASI Gurmukh Singh said that a case has been registered under section 304-B of the IPC against her husband Khan Singh, mother-in-law Surinder Kaur and father-in-law Sardool Singh for abetting the girl suicide.
