Sumit Singh of the Tarksheel Society said their NGO, through the memorandum submitted to the DC, had demanded representation in the monitoring committee formed to ensure the implementation of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

"Besides, we have sought respite for residents from the ear-splitting din caused by marriage palaces, loudspeakers, fireworks, bands, pressure horns and religious gatherings from 10 pm to 6 am," he said.

The environment lovers also urged the district administration to get pressure horns removed from vehicles. They said memoranda in this regard were submitted to the deputy commissioner in 2008 and 2010, but no action was taken to curtail noise pollution. "This is the fourth time that we have submitted a memorandum to the district administration. It is high time it took action to curb noise pollution," said Sumit.
