Show-cause notices were issued to these employees.
It is required to mention here that 40 employees were found to be late, while 35 employees were absent, when mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria conducted a surprise check at the office on Monday. He had also issued directions to take disciplinary action against them.
It is pertinent to mention here that MC employees generally reach office late due to which visitors are a harried lot.
Ghanshyam Thori said, “Four sanitary inspectors, two superintendents, a clerk of house tax branch, an operator on contract-basis and one peon were found absent during the checking.”
Visitors appreciated this step taken by the authorities as they claimed that such surprise checking should be conducted in afternoon also as some employees are not found at their offices.
City resident Sandeep Kumar said, “The MC should start biometric system for attendance of employees. MC should also install a complaint box on each floor of every zonal office.”
