No change in AAP candidate selection criteria despite embarrassment
Aam Adami Party (AAP) may have faced major embarrassment by taking a U-turn on ticket to Punjabi singer-turned-politician Balkar Sidhu, however there seems to be no change in the criteria to select candidates.
Aam Adami Party (AAP) may have faced major embarrassment by taking a U-turn on ticket to Punjabi singer-turned-politician Balkar Sidhu, however there seems to be no change in the criteria to select candidates.
AAP's Sangrur Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann's close associate Balkar Sidhu has lost his ticket to 29-year-old young English lecturer Baljinder Kaur, who is reported to be close to Fatehgarh Sahib MP Harvinder Singh Khalsa.
Baljinder Kaur, who resigned as lecturer from Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib on Friday, when asked about her political profile, said that her father Darshan Singh had unsuccessfully contested the SGPC elections in 2010. Her grandmother Malkeet Kaur had also unsuccessfully contested for the same body in 2004.
Apart from that, she claimed that she worked in the election campaign for Harvinder Singh Khalsa in parliamentary elections.
When Balkar Sidhu was escorting Arvind Kejriwal during his tour to Talwandi Sabo, Baljinder Kaur was seen running along with the car of Kejriwal to get his attention.
Interestingly, Baljinder Kaur also got the ticket on almost similar grounds that worked for Balkar Sidhu as well. However she has an edge over Balkar.
She belongs to Tirath Jagga Ram village in Talwandi Sabo. She did her matric from Akal Academy in Rahon of Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar. However, she went to Mata Sahib Kaur College in Talwandi Sabo. She has done MPhil in English from Punjabi University, Patiala.
"People of Bathinda are very innocent. They need someone to make them aware of modern-day developments. There are many things to do in this region. I want to work for people and hope that they would give me the opportunity," said Baljinder Kaur about her political agenda.
