Northern Railway Men's Union protests, seeks better health services

More than 700 members of Northern Railway Men's Union (NRMU), Ferozepur Division, staged a protest against the railways as well as the Central government on Monday to press for the acceptance of their demands.

More than 700 members of Northern Railway Men's Union (NRMU), Ferozepur Division, staged a protest against the railways as well as the Central government on Monday to press for the acceptance of their demands.

They seek a hospital for railway employees with all facilities. Besides, they are opposing “too much privatisation” in the department and also allege that they are not getting promoted.

The protesters gathered at the railway electric shed near the Ludhiana railway station and raised slogans against the authorities.

NRMU's divisional secretary Daljit Singh said, “Northern railways runs over 18,000 trains across the country and this is possible only because of the employees like us. All employees work hard but no one cares.”

He said, “Medical services for the employees are pathetic. There is no dedicated hospital. Other than this, the private players entering the railways will pose threat to our employment in the near future.”
