Considering a spurt in the number of snatching incidents this year, after the formation of the Eagle Squad by the Ludhiana (rural) police, the police commissionerate, Ludhiana, has now also formed an anti-snatching cell to investigate and curb the snatching crimes.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) J Elanchezhian is the supervisor of the cell, while inspector Ranjit Singh has been made the in-charge. On first day of its formation, at least 32 snatching incidents have been reported with the cell and two accused were also arrested.
The accused have been identified as Manjinder Singh alias Nikka, a resident of Dhadhi of Shimlapuri, and Amandeep Singh alias Noni, a resident of Nandpuri of the Noorwala Road.
Elanchezhian, addressing a press conference, said, “The accused, after stabbing a factory worker with a sharp-edged weapon, had looted his wallet and a gold ring on June 19. Police have also confiscated their motorcycle.”
On June 19, the two motorcycle-borne miscreants stabbed a factory worker in his chest and fled with cash and a gold ring on the Noorwala Road on Thursday.
Taking a serious note of the incident, police commissioner Jaiswal formed the anti- snatching cell to curb the incidents of snatching and robbery.
Elanchezhian added, “Our team arrested both of the accused within 24 hours of the incident and recovered the gold ring and weapons from their possession.
Meanwhile, a separate case under sections 473 (making or possessing counterfeit seal) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
They used to target morning walkers and operate from 5am to 9am in the morning. The ACP added that the anti-snatching cell would investigate in cooperation with the police stations concerned.
