Patiala: Woman who attempted immolation dies

The 28-year-old woman, who had attempted self- immolation last week due to the alleged torture by her in-laws over dowry and was admitted to PGI in Chandigarh, died on Sunday.

The victim Reeta, who was married to Radhe Shyam about five years ago, was being allegedly tortured by her in-laws, including her husband, for more dowry from her parents.

On April 20, she had attempted immolation and had suffered burns. On the complaint of her father Suresh Kumar, the police have booked three family members of her in-laws' family, including her husband Radhe Shyam, father-in-law Babu Ram and mother-in-law Kamla Devi under section 304b (dowry death -death caused by burns or bodily injury), 34 of IPC.

Police have been investigating the matter to take further action against the in-laws.
