Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) has blamed the faulty education system for hampering the growth of the industry in state.
Avtar Singh, general secretary, CICU, on Wednesday said there was a huge gap between the level of education in colleges and universities and the level of skill required in the industry, due to which the industry was suffering.
Chamber's joint secretary Upkar Singh Ahuja said admissions had started these days, and different colleges were giving lucrative advertisements to lure students for admissions. Whereas, industry felt that there was a huge gap between the required skill in the industries and the skill being developed in the colleges and universities, he added.
“The students, who pass out from these educational institutions, are not competent enough to absorb the requirement of the industries, and the industrial units have to give them further training for one year or so to make them employable. The practical training given in the educational institutions is negligible,” he said.
He urged the state government to take appropriate measures to upgrade the level of education and skill in educational institutions.
“Colleges are taking a huge fee from students for their training semesters, whereas nothing seems to have been taught to them by colleges,” he said, adding that training fee should be given to the industrial units where the students were being trained, as the industry paid a lot to train them.
