The local police, on Wednesday night, seized 80 bags of poppy husk worth Rs 40 lakh from the grain market of Jangiana village, while the alleged drug peddlers, probably 4 or 5, managed to flee taking the benefit of darkness.

The contraband was seized from a truck with Haryana number (HR-62-A-2525) and a without number plate Massey Ferguson tractor-trolley.

DSP Tapa, Harvinder Singh Virk, said, "As per documents recovered from the truck, it is registered in the name of one Mohan Singh of Bhaini Kalan village in Sangrur district."
SSP Opinderjit Singh Ghuman said, "Preliminary investigations indicated that the contraband was smuggled from other states. It is the biggest achievement of Barnala police so far."
