Sources said Tanbir was shot at on Sunday allegedly by one Ajmal. He was rushed to Rajendra Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The attack on Tanbir is said to be an outcome of a group rivalry.

The protesters accused police of inaction and said it has failed to arrest Ajmal, who is absconding. Polcie said it has registered a murder case against Ajmal. The protesters on Sunday had blocked the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road at Jerg Chowk. The situation remains tense in Malerkotla.
