The entrance examination was held on Sunday (May 17). The students said the result should have been declared a day after the entrance test, but the PTU authorities declared it on Thursday night.

The notification for the PhD examination uploaded on the website the university authorities had mentioned that the exam date would be May 17 and the result would be displayed the next day (May 18).

Abhinandan, who appeared for PhD in electronic engineering, said, “We were not given OMR sheets to answer the questions which were in the multiple-choice format. Every university conducts PhD examination on OMR sheet while PTU gave us simple sheet wherein four columns were made in which we had to write the correct option on our own.”

“It was not transparent at all as anybody can fill the answer sheet afterwards,” he claimed.

Amandeep Singh, who also appeared for PhD in electronic engineering, said the university authorities forwarded the result on Thursday midnight to email IDs of the students who appeared in the examination.

“Transparency is observed while conducting such tests in other universities. We were left shocked when we were asked to write on non-OMR sheet despite the fact that we were instructed in the roll number card to bring blue or black pen to circle the answer (on OMR sheet) for computerised checking,” he said.

Amandeep claimed that he was sure that he would get through the test, but was disappointed not to see his name in the list of selected students.

“We were not even allowed to take back question papers despite the fact that answers were asked to be attempted on a separate sheet. We could have checked the answers,” he added.

The parents of students are also agitated over the way the test was conducted. The university has a total of 569 seats for PhD course. The test was conducted on the university premises.

PTU public relations officer Rajneesh Sharma refused to comment on the issue. The students and their parents demanded that the examination be held again on OMR sheets on the lines of the Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET).
