Punjab farmers start 5-day protest seeking complete loan waiver

Farmers under the banner of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) started their five-day protest outside the Bathinda district administrative complex demanding complete farm debt waiver.
BKU leaders said the protest started at 13 districts across the state. District president of the union Shingara Singh Mann said the Congress government should fulfil the promise of complete farm loan waiver made to people during the assembly elections.

In Sangrur, BKU chief Joginder Singh Ugrahan asked chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to apologise to farmers for making false pre-poll promises. “The CM is running away from his promise as he has denied loan waiver to all farmers. If he cannot fulfil his promises, he should apologise and offer his resignation,” said Ugrahan.
The BKU activists also raised anti-government slogans outside the deputy commissioner’s office as part of their five-day protest. “Amarinder also swore by a holy book that he would wipe out the drug menace and corruption after coming to power, but he has failed to do so. In such a situation, He should apologise before the Akal Takht,” said Ugrahan.
