After the terror attack in Dinanagar in which three terrorists stormed into the police station and killed three home guard jawans and a superintendent of police in an encounter, vigil has been stepped up at the police stations in Amritsar and the border district of Tarn Taran.

Put on alert, various police stations in the Amritsar city and especially those on the highway are now being protected with cops standing inside a 'post' made of sand bags and armed with rifles. The same mode of protection has been deployed at the Ranjit Avenue also.

Amritsar police Commissioner Jatinder Aulakh told HT, "Since an alert was sounded after the terror attack, maximum efforts are made to deploy the maximum security possible, especially on the highway and also the areas outside the police station."

He added, "We have also briefed all SHOs and officers on the precautions and the drill to be followed to ensure fool-proof security of police stations and posts."

Bullet-proof vehicles have also been deployed at sensitive points.

In Tarn Taran also, the police top brass claim to have strengthened vigil and provided that extra protection to police stations.
