The protesting students were from KC Institutions; Doaba Group of Colleges Chhokran (Rahon); Rayat Bahra Institutes, and some other private colleges.

PSU Doaba president Baljeet Dharamkot said the administration had simply been stalling the students with no real intention of meeting their genuine demand. "As many as 12 students, including three girls, received serious injuries in the incident and are admitted at the civil hospital. We were holding a peaceful meeting and the police action was pre-meditated and they wanted to break-up the protest," he claimed.

On Saturday, Paramjeet Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Sukhvir Singh, Baljeet Kaur, Rajwant Kaur, Vikram Singh, Sagar Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Megha, Pooja, Gurpreet Kaur, Narinder Kaur and Ravi filed their statements before the SDM.

Sukhvir is reported to have told the SDM that their cops were thrown off by cops in the garden that day. Woman students Baljeet Kaur and Rajwant Kaur claimed that their dupattas were torn in the protest. Doctors Harvinder Singh and Gurkeerat Singh said 10 students had admitted to the civil hospital over the last two days.

District welfare officer Amrik Singh said that the central government has released 79 percent of amount of scholarship scheme to colleges for 2014-15 session, which raised questions over non-payment of students' fee to colleges.

However, the PSU has decided to hold a state-level protest at Dusshera ground on Jalandhar-Chandigarh highway against Thursday's cane charging incident on April 7.

PSU leaders Gurmukh Singh Mann, Rajinder Singh claimed that Nawanshahr SSP Snehdeep Sharma was responsible for the cane-charging. "Even as Moga SSP, he implicated two students in falses cases," they alleged.
