Terming the decision of former Moga Congress MLA Joginder Pal Jain to join the Shiromani Akali Dal as sheer political opportunism, Punjab Congress vice-president Rana KP Singh has appealed to the people of Moga to teach him a lesson in case he contests the by-elections.
While talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Singh said Jain had shown scant regard for the values of politics and accountability to the electorates of his constituency.
He said Jain had admitted that he was a businessman and not a politician, which showed that he had struck a business deal with the Akali Dal.
He said Jain had stabbed the Congress in the back and betrayed the electorate of the Moga constituency, who had elected him as a Congress candidate.
"It is high time the people came forward and rejected such elements, who take the help of electoral politics to further their business interests, so that standards of political ethics and morality are maintained," Singh said.
