Two held, 15 booked for clash over DJJS congregation in Tarn Taran

A day after a clash between followers of Nurmahal-based Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) and Satkar Committee members over a religious gathering proposed by the DJJS in the house of a resident at Jodhpur village in Tarn Taran, the Tarn Taran police have arrested two people and registered a case against 15 others by name besides 15 unidentified persons in this regard.

A day after a clash between followers of Nurmahal-based Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) and Satkar Committee members over a religious gathering proposed by the DJJS in the house of a resident at Jodhpur village in Tarn Taran, the Tarn Taran police have arrested two people and registered a case against 15 others by name besides 15 unidentified persons in this regard.

The arrested have been identified as Tejinder Singh and Nishan Singh, both gunmen of DJJS, and residents of Jodhpur village. Besides the arrested, the ones booked in the case have been identified as Harjit Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Balkar Singh, Rinku, Sucha Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Vicky, Lovely, Rajwinder kaur, wife of Tejinder Singh, Sukh, wife of Harjit Singh, Raj Kaur, Baljit Kaur, wife of Balkar Singh and five unidentified women and 10 unidentified men.

The case has been registered under sections 307, 324, 323, 506, 148, 149 IPC, 25, 27, 25 (54/59) of the Arms Act on the complaint of Amrik Singh of Damdami Taksal.

Meanwhile, the village witnessed heavy police deployment to ward off any untoward incident.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Tarn Taran Manmohan Kumar Sharma said that two gunmen, attached with the DJJS, had been arrested on charges of firing levelled against them, he said. He added that a case had been registered against other persons as well. "Further investigations are on," said Sharma.

Akal Takht Jathedar visits Jodhpur

Meanwhile, Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh visited Jodhpur where he met the persons, who had sustained injuries in the firing incident. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), taking a strong notice of the firing, has condemned the incident.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Diljit Singh Bedi, additional secretary, SGPC, said that the Akal Takht had banned the religious congregations of DJJS. "Hence, no permission should be granted to hold such gatherings that hurt religious feelings," he said. He demanded strict action against those who had resorted to firing.
