Verka milk prices up by Rs 2 per litre
The price of full cream milk has been increased by Rs 4 a litre.
The Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Milkfed), which produces Verka brand, has increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre (Re 1 per pouch) with effect from tomorrow (March 8). The price of full cream milk has been increased by Rs 4 a litre.
It is second time that Verka has increased milk prices in the past six months. In August last year, milk prices were hiked by Rs 2 a litre.
The revised rates will be applicable in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The full cream milk will now be available for Rs 52 instead of Rs 48 a litre, standard milk will cost Rs 46 instead of Rs 44, toned milk Rs 42 against Rs 40 and the rate of double toned milk has been hiked from Rs 36 to Rs 38 a litre.
The moves came after Milkfed had on March 1 announced a hike of Rs 20 per kg fat on procurement rates to dairy farmers.
Defending the decision, Milkfed chairman Amarjit Singh Sidhu said retail price of milk has to be increased if the procurement cost goes up. As the input cost of dairy farmers had gone up, it was necessary to increase the procurement price.
