Amala Paul on board Mani Ratnam’s film adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan
After big names like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram, actor Amala Paul is all set to join Mani Ratnam’s new film, based on Tamil classic Ponniyin Selvan.
After signing actors such as Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Keerthy Suresh for his upcoming project, filmmaker Mani Ratnam is believed to have roped in Amala Paul as well for a crucial role in the film. The Mani Ratnam film is based on the popular Tamil epic Ponniyin Selvan, an adaptation of late Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historic novel of the same name.
Details about Amala’s character is yet unknown; however, she’s said to have already signed on the dotted lines. To be produced by Lyca Productions, the project will get launched later this year. It will be a multi-lingual release and will feature actors from across industries.
For close to a decade, Mani Ratnam has been planning to make Ponniyin Selvan. It looks his long-time wish all set to be fulfilled as he has successfully managed to put together the cast and crew.
Ponniyin Selvan, according to history, narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman, one of the kings of the Chola dynasty during the 10th and 11th centuries.
Reliable sources have confirmed that pre-production work has already commenced on the project. The makers are currently in the process of erecting huge sets to shoot crucial portions of the film. It’s worth mentioning that superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth recently announced she will bankroll a web series version of Ponniyin Selvan in association with MX Player.
