After nearly 48 days of complete shutdown, film shootings have begun in Kollywood. Leading the way was Mani Ratnam’s CCV. However, the film’s crew also came under fire from environmentalists.

After nearly 48 days of strike, the Tamil film industry is slowly but surely limping back to normalcy. During the strike, shooting of all Tamil films had stopped. One of the teams back in action is ace director Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (CCV) film crew. The film boasts of a galaxy of stars including Jyothika, STR, Vijay Sethupathi, Aishwarya Rajesh, Arvind Swamy, Arun Vijay and Aditi Rao Hydari among others.

Meanwhile, the team of CCV has come under attack from environmentalists for leaving behind a lot of trash while at the film’s shoot on the beaches near the Muttukadu estuary, about an hour’s drive from Chennai city. The Muttukadu beach was full of small glass pieces and an abandoned windshield, reports The News Minute.

Quoting Madhu, who works for an NGO called Bay of Life Foundation that routinely cleans the beaches, the website wrote, “This happened last week -- around the 24th -- at Kovalam, where we normally surf. When the shoot was on, the surfers were asked to go elsewhere. When they came back, they saw that there was a whole lot of glass on the beach. There were also broken bottles and an abandoned windshield.”

It may be recalled that Kovalam beach too is close to Chennai, about 40 kms from the state capital.

They also found some empty cartridges on the beach. Another activist named Showkath, working for the said NGO, told the publication that of the two actors present at the shoot -- Vijay Sethupathi and Silambarasan -- she contacted Vijay over Facebook about the trash. In response, all she got was a curt message stating that it would not happen again.

These beaches are frequented by kids and surfers, In fact, one surfer and an activist involved in beach clean-up cut a toe and a finger respectively.

The activists maintained that this was not the first time they have faced a situation like this. A few months back, another film crew involving actor Vijay and AR Murugadoss too shot on the beach.
