My Kalaignar has passed : Rajinikanth and Tamil film industry mourn Karunanidhi’s death

Rajinikanth and a slew of other actors such as Hansika Motwani, Trisha Krishnan, Pranitha Subhash and Rahul Ravindran tweeted condolences on the death of political leader M Karunanidhi.

Actor-politician Rajinikanth said today was a black day in his life, “one which I can never forget” as he led the south film industry in mourning the death of revered 94-year-old Tamil Nadu leader M Karunanidhi.

“Today is a black day in my life, one which I can never forget as I lost my Kalaignar. I pray for his soul,” Rajinikanth told media persons in Chennai.

Karunanidhi, DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister, had been in intensive care since July 28 in Chennai, the state capital. He breathed his last at 6.10 pm on Tuesday.

In a tweet, Rajinikanth said, “This day, my Kalaignar has passed and this day will forever remain in my heart as the darkest day. May his soul rest in peace.”

Others who tweeted messages include composers GV Prakash Kumar, Anirudh Ravichander, actors Hansika Motwani, Trisha Krishnan, Pranitha Subhash and Rahul Ravindran.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately tweeted condolences to Karunanidhi's family, saying "India and particularly Tamil Nadu will miss him immensely".

 

 

“Loved by the Tamilian people, Kalaignar strode the stage of Tamil politics, like a colossus, for over 6 decades. In his passing, India has lost a great son. My condolences to his family as also to the millions of Indians who grieve for their beloved leader tonight,” wrote Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Kalaignar Karunanidhi was a screenplay writer known for works such as Parasakthi, Poompuhar and more. His films reflected his politics, especially the Sivaji Ganesan-starrer Parasakthi.
