SS Rajamouli may work with Sridevi and Mohanlal in a new fantasy drama
Baahubali director SS Rajamouli is preparing for his next project in real earnest. Buzz is he might cast Sridevi and Mohanlal in it.
Never mind their recent public spat but news is Baahubali director SS Rajamouli and Bollywood actor Sridevi may be working on a new film together. The said film, which will also star Malayalam heavyweight Mohanlal, is rumoured to be a fantasy drama.
According to a report in IB Times, the film will be of fantasy genre but is set in current times and deals with real life struggles and situations.
The makers have approached Sridevi and if all goes well, the trio will work together.
There has been a lot of speculation about Rajamouli’s next film, given the stupendous success of his Prabhas starrer Baahubali. While all the major actors of the franchise -- Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia -- have moved on to their next projects, nothing has been heard about Rajamouli.
However, the news about casting Sridevi has come as major surprise, given the bitterness between the two over Rajamouli’s comments on the actor as to why the makers didn’t cast her in Baahubali, a role which eventually went to Ramya Krishnan.
Speaking on a Telugu chat show, Rajamouli had revealed in May 2017 that Sridevi had reportedly asked for a hefty fee for the role. “After hearing series of wishes from her (Sridevi), our team got fed up. We also thought that it would be above our budget to meet her demands. Then we approached Ramya Krishnan and she proved herself [to be] fantastic. We now feel [that] we were lucky that we dropped the idea of having Sridevi in our film.”
In June, during the promotions for her latest Bollywood film, Mom, the issue resurfaced when Sridevi was asked for her comment. “I was shocked and hurt by his interview. Rajamouli is a calm and dignified person. I was very happy to work with him. But, the way he spoke about the issue made me feel very sad,” she said in an interview to the channel, NTV Telugu.
Talking about her ‘starry demands’ for working in Baahubali, Sridevi added, “People would have sent me packing if I was like that. I don’t know if the producer wrongly told Rajamouli that I made all these demands, but it is not in good taste to speak like this.”
Regretting his decision to speak about the actor, Rajamouli was quoted by DNA as saying, “One thing is for sure. I shouldn’t have discussed the details on a public platform. That’s a mistake. And I regret it.”
Rajamouli was all praise for Sridevi’s contribution to regional films down South. “I have huge respect for Sridevi ji as a flag-bearer of the southern film industries in Mumbai for many years. I wish her all the best. And I wish Mom a big success. The trailer looks very intriguing and promising,” he further said in his interview to DNA.
