When the show launched in October 2014, even the makers of Permanent Roommates had no inkling that it would get so popular among netizens. The crew at The Viral Fever (TVF), a digital entertainment company, believes that the realistic portrayal, relatability and repeat value of the situational comedy — depicting the life and times of a couple in a live-in relationship — has made Permanent Roommates a riveting success.

Two years and a blockbuster season later, the show returns. After a month-long break, Permanent Roommates will air season two’s fifth episode on TVFPlay on Sunday, May 22.

Since Mikesh and Tanya, the protagonist couple, are people like us, we asked the crew about the life lessons to look out for on the show.

Planning is great, but don’t push hard if things don’t work

Says Nidhi Singh, who plays Tanya Nagpal. “The thing is you do not know. Unforeseen things happen all the time. Tanya was neither prepared for marriage nor pregnancy. But after a point, she lets go because she realises she cannot control everything,” Nagpal says.

Being smart costs

This one’s by Sumeet Vyas, our Mikesh Chaudhary. “In our greedy quests, we have become smart,” he says. “You like Tanya and Mikesh’s love story because of its innocence.”

Simple is good

Directors Sameer Saxena and Deepak Mishra think the biggest take-away from the show is its simplicity. “Mikesh and Tanya are everyday characters. When kept simple, life becomes much more fun, and they serve as wonderful examples,” they say.

Another one from Nidhi Singh, who says that love is far from the romantic notion of a bed of roses. “You have to be prepared for all of it — the best, the worst and the uncalled for,” she says.

Until, of course, you are sure you can handle the aftermath, warns Jitendra Kumar, who played Gittu, the nervous groom who was unsure about sex in Season 1.
