Man United manager Moyes coy on Wayne Rooney contract reports

The 28-year-old's current contract is due to expire in June 2015, but at his weekly press conference on Friday, Moyes refused to confirm or deny whether or not a new contract had been agreed.

Manchester United manager David Moyes remained tight-lipped on Friday over reports that striker Wayne Rooney has signed a new contract at Old Trafford.

British media reports suggest that the England international has agreed a new five-and-a-half-year deal worth up to £300,000 ($500,000, 360,000 euros) a week.

The 28-year-old's current contract is due to expire in June 2015, but at his weekly press conference on Friday, Moyes refused to confirm or deny whether or not a new contract had been agreed.

"As soon as we have information to give you, we'll give you it," Moyes said.

"Everyone knows how important a player he is. He's a terrific footballer. If we can get it done, that will be great."

Rooney, who has won five Premier League titles and the Champions League at United, had looked set to leave last year after former manager Alex Ferguson indicated that the player had asked to leave Old Trafford -- something Rooney denied.

United's Premier League title rivals Chelsea had more than one bid for him rejected during the close season, but Moyes has previously stressed his desire to hang on to the striker.

Meanwhile, United face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday and Moyes has been impressed by the job that Tony Pulis has done since he replaced Ian Holloway as manager.

Palace have moved from six points off safety to 15th place in the table, winning seven out of 15 matches in all competitions, since Welshman Pulis took over.

Eat their words

Moyes believes that the former Stoke City manager has answered his critics in the best possible way.

"He has showed all his experience," Moyes said. "A lot of people were writing Tony off during his time at Stoke, but he hasn't half gone in there and made a few people eat their words.

"I think Tony Pulis has showed all his experience. Results are what matter and you have to think about where Crystal Palace were and where they are now. What matters to Tony is results and he's very good at getting them.

"Tony always has his sides well-organised and well-drilled. The players are made well aware of how he wants them to play and what's expected from them.

"He's had great success throughout his career. He's been a really successful manager in the Premier League.

"If he keeps Crystal Palace up, there won't be anybody in this room or any other journalists who have asked questions who'd have thought they'd stay up. He's doing a great job with them."

United are expected to recall youngster Adnan Januzaj to the starting line-up at the expense of winger Ashley Young for the trip to Selhurst Park.

Moyes could also hand a start to fit-again midfielder Marouane Fellaini for the first time since early December after he recovered from recent wrist and groin injuries.

The Premier League champions are also expected to recall defenders Rafael da Silva and Phil Jones, who have both recovered from concussion.

United face Olympiakos in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, but although they currently trail fourth-place Liverpool by 11 points in the race to qualify for next season's competition, Moyes said that his side have not given up yet.

"We want to win," he said. "We have another big game on Tuesday night as well. We have two games in I don't know how many hours apart.

"We play at 5:30pm (1730 GMT, on Saturday) and then again in a European Cup tie on Tuesday night. That's the way it is, but we'll be ready. We want to try and be good in both games."
