But the striker, whose contract with Vasco da Gama runs till March-end, did not say if he would be playing for the club or with Flamengo with which he said he has a long-term offer.

The 42-year-old forward, the only one to share Pele's 1000-goal mark in the game's history, left Vasco da Gama a month ago amid a controversy with club president Eurico Miranda.

The forward said that he wants "a future project" and insisted that Vasco da Gama was offering him "nothing". On the other hand, he said he has a much more concrete and long-term offer from Flamengo, his present team's biggest and fiercest rival.

Romario said that Flamengo's offer also includes a sport commentator contract with recently launched Internet-based television channel Fla-TV and a position as the club's international representative when he actually hangs up his cleats.

Flamengo said it intends to schedule for Romario's departure with a series of five friendly matches against foreign teams. The last one would be played in the Maracana stadium.
