She, however, doesn't need to undergo surgery to treat the anterior cruciate ligament injury to her right knee.

Sania Mirza will be out of action at least for a month but the good news for India's only WTA Tour title winner is she doesn't need to undergo surgery to treat the anterior cruciate ligament injury to her right knee.

The 20-year old Hyderabadi player, who pulled out of the Qatar Open after suffering a hyper-extension of the knee during match-play earlier this week, was found to have a "stretched anterior cruciate ligament" and has been advised a four-week rehabilitation programme.

The Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills where Sania is admitted for treatment said the player would be discharged in a couple of days and a decision on further course of action would be taken after assessing her after four weeks.

Dr KJ Reddy, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the hospital who treated Sania, told that when exactly she could return to action could be said only after the fourth week's assessment.

"It is difficult to say now. It depends on how she responds to the rehabilitation regimen. It is variable from person to person," Reddy said.
