After a thrilling win against Ghana in a match that had everything, from talent to controversy with the christening of a new ‘hand of God’ by way of Luis Suarez, Uruguay now face a tougher opponent in the Dutch.
Through Suarez’s handball and Asamoah Gyan’s penalty miss, the Uruguayans held their nerves better and came out on top.
The Dutch are no pushovers and after overcoming Brazil, they will fancy their chances and come out on the field guns blazing. Nigel De Jong and Van der Wiel will miss the clash but so will a couple of key Uruguayan players — Suarez and Jorge Ciro Fucile.
With a shot at the final, both sides will give it their best: the Netherlands to exorcise the demons of 1974 and 1978 and Uruguay to possibly relive the magic of 1930 and 1950.
