A Muslim marriage claimed to be the first marriage in the country through video-conferencing was organized in Lucknow in which the groom was absent while the bride pronounced "Qubool Hai."
The bridegroom, Alishan Zaidi sat before his computer in far away Dubai while the 24-year-old beautiful bride Aliza Alim sat in the Zanana of the Taj marriage Hall in Mansoornagar.
Every relative was presenbt at the marriage but the groom was missing! The Maulavis first found it to be a queer marriage but later agreed to solemnize it without any fuss.
They first said, "Ama Yeh Kaisi Shaadi hai Ki Dulah Nadarat Hai." (What type of marriage is this that the groom is missing?).
But when they were convinced that there was nothing wrong with it and that high clerics have held that it was not un-Islamic to organize such a marriage, he finally agreed.
Alishan Zaidi is an MBA from Lucknow University and is presently working in a Dubai-based multi-media company.
He got engaged last month while he had come on leave to Lucknow. But for marriage he had expressed his inability to come to Lucknow as his company was not willing to grant him leave.
The bride Aliza is a former student of Loreto Convent. She is doing a course in fashion technology. As a result of the high-tech marriage she has become a celebrity.
