The 24-year-old's dad, Raymond, died of cancer aged 53 and was buried on Monday. But Emma is completely unaware of the tragic news as her father had asked for her not be told until she has finished on the show.

"Her dad didn't want her to be upset or to feel like she had to leave the house to come to his funeral," Cornell's boyfriend, Tim Stanton, told News Ltd newspapers. "He didn't want to ruin the experience for her," he said. "She might be upset when she comes out and finds out what has happened, but I think she'll understand."

Cornell had reportedly been estranged from her dad for several years but had been back in contact with him before going into the hermetically-sealed "Big "Brother" house one month ago.

A Big Brother spokesman declined to comment, News Ltd said.
