Mouli Ganguly will return to TV after a hiatus of over two years with her mentor Ekta Kapoor’s show, Kya Huaa Tera Vaada, on Sony tonight. She will play a rich businesswoman, Anushka, who ends up having an extramarital affair with the protagonist Pradeep (Pawan Shankar).
“This role is unlike my previous characters on TV, which was the primary reason for me taking it up,” says Mouli, who didn’t mind waiting for almost two years for a good role. “I get excited when I find variety in my work or else, I am easily bored,” she explains, adding, “For me, money is negotiable, roles are not. Though ‘different’ roles on TV are few and far between, I guess I got lucky with this one.”
Reports suggest that the show is loosely based on the Bollywood flick Biwi No. 1 (1999) but Mouli refuses to reveal the plot. Kya Huaa… is based on the life of Mona (Mona Singh) and Pradeep, who have been married for 10 years. Their kids have become Mona’s priority now, leaving her with no time for her husband.
Will Mouli’s role of the other woman be a negative one? “This show is realistic, so my character Anushka, like everyone else, has normal feelings. She doesn’t roam around with a revolver in her purse,” she laughs.
Mouli has worked in Bengali films, judged a talent show on a Bengali channel last year and even took up painting. She credits producer Ekta Kapoor for pushing her to take up soaps again. “I am lazy and laidback, but she had urged me to take up Kahin Kisi Roz (which wrapped up in 2004).”
