The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights is out with a new set of guidelines to prevent exploitation of children participating in TV shows and advertisements.

New guidelines as reported by Daily Mail:

No child should be made to deliver lines or enact scenes that are inappropriate for his or her age.

Children in reality shows should not be ridiculed, insulted or discouraged by the judges.

No child can work on more than one production at one time.

A child can work only one shift per day with a break every hour.

An infant of less than three months should not participate in such programmes except breast feeding or immunisation.

Children are to be directly supervised by at least one parent or a known person always.

"The panel referred to the rules followed by other countries but nowhere did we find a model to regulate the participation based on a child's age. Plus, we couldn't arrive on a consensus on which age is too young to star in a show. So we are now first waiting to see how the guidelines are implemented by the I&B ministry," NCPCR chairperson Shantha Sinha said.

The step was taken after NCPCR received several complaints regarding TV shows, one show being Pati, Patni Aur Woh on NDTV Imagine which revolved around celebrities learning to take care of babies.
